Zhirinovsky reacts to protest note of Azerbaijani MFA

In response to the protest note put forward by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), which treated Vladimir Zhirinovsky's statements about Ilham Aliev as offensive, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) has reminded officials about the freedom of speech, called the Azerbaijani President a wise leader and admitted that his party was against the deployment of Russian troops in Southern Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Azerbaijani MFA treated the public performance by Vladimir Zhirinovsky about Ilham Aliev as containing offensive and provocative statements and conveyed a note of protest to the Russian party.

In the text transcript of the programme, in which Zhirinovsky spoke, posted on July 30 on the website of the "Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda", the politician, answering a question about the participation of Russian militaries in settling the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict, called Southern Caucasus a Russia's influence zone, and spoke sharply about Ilham Aliev.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky has reacted to the protest note released by the Azerbaijani MFA concerning his statements about Ilham Aliev, the "Gazeta.ru" wrote on August 1.

In particular, he has stated that his party opposes the presence of Russian militaries in Southern Caucasus. "We are there (in Southern Caucasus), as we were invited. And I and the LDPR are against it. Sort it out for yourself. Therefore, what protest notes can there be?" Mr Zhirinovsky asked in his comment to the TASS.

Besides, he has treated the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev, as "a wise leader". “His father, Geidar Aliev, was even better. I praised both Ilham Aliev and his father. And if some officials can't understand things well, and decided to hand over some note to the temporary plenipotentiary (of Russia), then don't they know about the freedom of speech?" the politician has asked.
