Widow demands to investigate killing of Kabardino-Balkarian resident by law enforcers

Relatives found signs of torture on the body of Anzor Barazov, which law enforcers gave out to them after a special operation in Nalchik and Baksan. Anzor Barazov’s family members request the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to conduct an investigation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after a counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in Nalchik and Baksan on July 3, five killed suspects, including Khasanbi Khupsergenov, Anzor Barazov, Arsen Mendokhov, Tamaz Chikhradze, and Khasan Shogenov, were declared militants. According to the information of journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, the men were all kidnapped, and the special operation was staged. On July 7, the Muftiate of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) called for an unbiased investigation into the circumstances of the CTO. The appeal speaks of the categorical distrust of society towards law enforcers and the authorities in general, human rights defenders note.

When relatives received the body of 35-year-old Anzor Barazov, they found signs of torture on it, including hematomas in the neck, ears, abrasions on the neck, and heels bearing signs of beatings. Meanwhile, earlier, Elmira Ligidova, a wife of Anzor Barazov, filed a statement that she agreed with the termination of the case against her husband in connection with his death.

Elmira Ligidova’s statement suggests that her husband was kidnapped on July 1.
