Relatives of man detained in Khasavyurt request an explanation from police

A resident of Dagestan was detained and taken to the police department in Khasavyurt, but law enforcers do not allow an advocate or relatives to visit the detainee, his relatives complained. They requested the police to explain what he was suspected of.

Tonight, a video with the complaints of the detainee’s relatives has been posted in the “Voice of Dagestan” public account on Instagram.

The video was made in the dark. The footage depicts at least a dozen men and women who gathered near the illuminated entrance to the building.

“Yesterday, my husband was taken to an unknown place. Now we have learned that he is being kept here, at the city police department,” the woman says in the video, while holding back her tears. And she continues: “They don’t let us visit him, they don’t let an advocate visit him, and they don’t let anyone in. I’m a mother of three children. What is he guilty of? Is he guilty because he was earning bread for his children? I have three children, how will I take care of them? Please help, please share this video!”

By 12:55 p.m. Moscow time, the post gained 258,000 views, and more than 1200 comments were posted under it. In their comments, many users did not question the words of the detainee’s relatives. “Well, a wide public outcry is needed. The police must produce explanations in any case,” emphasized, in particular, user 90kgmubr.

“What does it mean? You mean they don’t let an advocate visit the detainee? Do they deprive the person of the protection he has the right to?” user zakonnik_05 asked.
