In Azerbaijan, two Armenian citizens accused in case on espionage

Azerbaijani investigators accused Armenian citizens Gevorg Sudjyan and David Davtyan of espionage, and the criminal case was transferred to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the parties to the Karabakh conflict agreed on the return of all prisoners of war (POWs) after the end of the autumn battles of 2020. Azerbaijan insists that it has fulfilled the agreement, and about 60 people who were not extradited to Armenia are not prisoners of war, but saboteurs captured after the cessation of the full-scale combat actions.

In Azerbaijan, the investigation into the criminal case under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan against Gevorg Sudjyan and David Davtyan, accused of espionage, has been completed. The case has been transferred to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the “haqqin.az” reports today.

Gevorg Sudjyan and David Davtyan are citizens of Armenia, the “Sputnik-Azerbaijan” reports.

The reports do not disclose the information when and where Gevorg Sudjyan and David Davtyan were detained and what exactly they are charged with. Meanwhile, the detention of two civilians with the same names was reported in November 2020, after the end of the combat actions in Nagorno-Karabakh. Then the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed at the office of the Ombudsman of Armenia that Gevorg Sudjyan, the head of the charitable public organization “New Armenia Motherland-Diaspora”, and his friend David were captured.
