Chechen native sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment in case of an attack on police

In Rostov-on-Don, a court found Makharbi Tosuev, a native of Chechnya, guilty of an armed riot, acts of banditry, an attempt on policemen, and a murder, and increased his term of imprisonment to 25 years.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in February 2018, Makharbi Tosuev was charged with the murder of an employee of the Nogai District Interior Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan. Makharbi Tosuev claimed that he signed a confession to committing crimes under torture, the “Civic Assistance” Committee reported on July 22, 2020.

According to the investigators’ version, in early 1999, Makharbi Tosuev joined an armed grouping in Chechnya, underwent training on how to handle various types of weapons, and then on May 23, 2002, being a member of a gang, he attacked the police and fired at a police service car of the Shelkovskiy ROVD (District Interior) inspectors. As a result of the attack, four policemen and a passenger were killed, and several others were wounded.

The court in Rostov-on-Don found Makharbi Tosuev guilty of participation in an armed riot, acts of banditry, an attempt on policemen, and a murder. Due to partial addition of the punishment imposed by the Nadterechny District Court of Chechnya on May 21, 2019, the court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Makharbi Tosuev to 25 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, a press officer for the Southern District Military Court informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to the court press officer, Makharbi Tosuev pleaded not guilty.
