Court leaves Dagestani journalist Gadjiev under arrest for other three months

In Rostov-on-Don, the military court extended until October 28 the term of arrest for Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), and two other defendants accused of financing terrorism.

According to the investigators’ version, Abdulmumin Gadjiev and his accomplices collected 68 million roubles and 200,000 US dollars for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. Abdulmumin Gadjiev insists he is not guilty, and his colleagues consider his prosecution the pressure on the journalist.

A public prosecutor “demonstrates a formal approach” to the issue of extending the pre-trial restriction measure, advocate Liana Amirdjanova claims. The advocate notes that the earlier court’s decision on the extension of the journalist’s arrest has not yet entered into force, as it has been challenged.

Oksana Malyukova, an advocate of Kemal Tambiev, also considered that the public prosecutor did not provide sufficient grounds for extending the arrest. All defenders requested the court to mitigate the pre-trial restriction measure.

Let us remind you that colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev regularly hold pickets in Makhachkala with the demand to release the journalist and stop the practice of unsubstantiated arrests.
