Migrants from Chechnya explain their complaint to Putin by despair

Refugees from Chechnya living in Ingushetia have recorded a video appeal to Vladimir Putin, since they hope that Russian President will force officials to address their long-standing problem.

The forced migrants from Chechnya have formed a public association to fight for receiving housing from the state, its head Madina Dzortova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"All have been evicted from barracks and hostels. There are families who rent housing in barracks, but not at the expense of the state ... Besides, we were not given money for daily living and food," she said.

According to Ms Dzortova, this injustice has forced refugees to record the video appeal.

At his meeting with Vladimir Putin, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the then head of Ingushetia, promised that Ingush authorities would complete the provision of housing to forced migrants from Chechnya by 2016.

The state is not obliged to solve the housing problem of the forced migrants from Chechnya living in Ingushetia, Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the "Civil Assistance" Committee*, has explained. "In 2015, amendments were made to the law on forced migrants, which deprived all the settlers of the hope of getting housing. Now, according to the law, the state owes them nothing ... Hundreds of people found themselves in a desperate situation, and the state shook the problem off its hands," she has added.
