Domestic violence victim from Chechnya fears for her life

A 20-year-old daughter of a native of Chechnya, who had fled from her father because of beatings, after the detention of a Chechen woman, Khalimat Taramova, made her own story public, the edition "Takie Dela" (So It Goes) has written.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported, referring to rights defenders, that Khalimat Taramova was forcibly taken to Chechnya, but the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decided not to take urgent measures in this regard, treating Russian authorities' arguments that there was no threat to her life in Chechnya as convincing.

According to Tamara, she has been hiding from her relatives in a temporary shelter outside Russia for six months already. Her mother is Russian, and her father is a Chechen businessman and "a very wealthy person." Her father had been beating her up since childhood, the girl said.

In 2016, her parents parted; and her father sent her and her brother to Grozny to his sisters. There, she constantly heard reproaches that she was not a Chechen, and that Russians were "all alcoholics and prostitutes."

According to her story, her brother insulted and beat her up in front of her father's sisters. Tamara began complaining about this to her entourage, but "it reached the family and infuriated them."

The girl planned to escape from her father's family in 2022.

"But on January 14, my dad beat me with my head against the wall because I put the bread into the bag incorrectly ... He hit my aching jaw and my fracture that has not yet healed, screamed and mocked at me. I recorded this on audio and downloaded the record to those whom I trusted, asking for help ... They rented a hotel room for me and helped to draw up an escape plan," Tamara said.

On January 15, the girl fled to a shelter for victims of violence. In doing so, she received threats from her father; and she had to constantly wear masks and hide. According to her story, her relatives are demanding from law enforcers to inform them of her whereabouts.
