Kadyrov rejects sovereignty for Chechnya

President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has declared that the issue of signing a powers delimitative treaty between Russia and Chechnya is no longer actual, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

"We suggest forgetting about the treaty, I'm against its signing," Mr. Kadyrov has told today to journalists in Moscow, having explained it by the fact that "Russia is a great power" and "should the regions start signing powers delimitative treaties with the federal centre, it can weaken Russia."

After this Kadyrov's statement, Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov, Chairman of the National Assembly of Chechnya, made his statement that the Parliament of Chechnya had addressed the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation with a request to allocate 8 billion roubles for rehabilitation of the Chechens who had been repressed during the time of Stalin's rule. Mr. Abdurakhmanov has noted that the request should not be regarded as compensation, which Chechnya asks from the federal centre in exchange for the refusal to sign the powers delimitative treaty, the NEWSru reports.
