Instagram users find it illogical to cancel carnival in Gelendzhik

While commenting on the ban imposed by the “Rospotrebnadzor” (Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare) on holding a traditional carnival in Gelendzhik, social media users noted that tourists from all over Russia came to the city for festivities and the cancellation of the outdoor event looked unjustified.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 29, Veniamin Kondratiev, Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, signed a decree to extend until May 12 the high alert regime imposed in connection with the pandemic. Meanwhile, earlier, the Kuban authorities have made a decision that the holiday season in the region will begin on May 1, a month earlier than usually. Officials motivated their decision by a favourable epidemiological situation developed in the region.

In Gelendzhik, the traditional carnival to celebrate the opening of the holiday season is cancelled. The holiday was supposed to take place on June 5-6, but the “Rospotrebnadzor” imposed a ban on the event.

Today, the “gelendzhikcity” public account on Instagram has reported that for the second year in a row, Gelendzhik will open the season without a carnival.

According to many users of the Instagram public account, the coronavirus pandemic is not a sufficient reason to cancel the carnival in Gelendzhik. “Of course, it is a dangerous danger: to walk in the open air, in summer, under the sun,” user antonina.ermishkina wrote with sarcasm. “If the ‘Rospotrebnadzor’ banned the carnival, then, by analogy, the sea beaches should also be closed for the summer period. You can go on vacation, but you may not visit the carnival!” user weraserenko expresses her surprise.
