Residents of Beslan respond to tragedy in Kazan

In the evening on May 12, in memory of those killed in Kazan, in School No. 1 of Beslan, where a terrorist act was committed in September 2004, people lit candles, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In the morning on May 11, in Kazan, as a result of a school shooting, seven children and two teachers were killed; other 21 persons were wounded. Law enforcers have stated that the shooter was a 19-year-old college student, the RIA "Novosti" has reported.

About 100 people gathered in the gym of Beslan School No. 1, which became a memorial. Among them, there were members of the "Beslan Mothers" Committee, officials of the Pravoberezhny District, teachers and pupils, former hostages, as well as ordinary townspeople.

On the gym floor, volunteers laid out the words "Kazan. We grieve. May 11, 2021" with candles. The victims were commemorated with a minute of silence.

"What happened in Kazan brought us back to September 3. We want to tell all people, all parents, residents of Kazan, injured children and adults that we are with them," said Susanna Dudieva, the chair of the "Beslan Mothers" Committee.

The Kazan incident once again stirred up memories of the Beslan tragedy, Aneta Gadieva, a deputy chair of the "Beslan Mothers", has added. "It was deja vu [...] Screams, children jumping out, running, bloody bodies on the ground. Therefore, Beslan could not remain indifferent," she said.
