Advocate claims violation of Azerbaijani woman's rights during her arrest in KBR

The court's conclusions on the need to arrest Djamilya Guseinova, an Azerbaijani citizen suspected of attempted theft, have not been confirmed by the case materials, the advocate, Irina Khurzokova, asserts. According to her version, Guseinova lost her child after the arrest and signed a confession, being unable to read and write in Russian.

According to Khurzokova, Djamilya Guseinova came to the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) from Azerbaijan for the funeral, but could not return to her homeland, since she had no money for the return trip. The woman went over the villages of the district and looked for a part-time job – to clean or dig up a vegetable garden. Someone of the locals found Guseinova suspicious; and he called the police, after which the woman was detained.

After the detention, on April 10, Guseinova suffered a miscarriage right at the police station. She was taken to the hospital in handcuffs and kept under guard around the clock, the advocate said, noting that the woman had been subjected to "gross psychological and physical pressure."

Guseinova has six children, two classes of education and she can neither read nor write in Russian. Therefore, the advocate questions the confession that the woman had allegedly written.
