Abkhaz young woman publicly apologizes for her video posted on social media site

A 19-year-old young woman has apologized for her video with the phrase reading: “Abkhazia is Georgia,” posted on a social media platform, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia reports in its video.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 26, 2008, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and the Georgian parliament therefore voted to sever diplomatic relations with Russia. Since then, Georgia has been considering Abkhazia and South Ossetia as the territories occupied by Russia.

The police started a pre-investigation examination after a video in which the young woman voiced the phrase “Abkhazia is Georgia” had been posted on a social media platform, the press service for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Abkhazia reported.

According to the law enforcement bodies, the video was posted on March 27, and after that, the police “received many complaints from the citizens who expressed their indignation.” Alyona Taniya, a participant of the video, born in 2001, told the police that she was asked to post the video.

Today, the video report entitled “Abkhazia is not Georgia!” has been posted on the YouTube channel of the Abkhazian MIA’s press service.

In the video, a young woman is sitting in front of a table at a MIA’s office. While answering questions from a law enforcer, she is mentioning her name and date of birth. The policewoman demonstrates to the young woman the video, which became the reason for their conversation.

Then, the video shows the young woman looking at the camera and saying: “I’m Alyona Taniya, I posted a video in which I said that Abkhazia is Georgia. I was asked to post such a video. I apologize to everyone. I’m very sorry.”
