Mekhti Ibragimov gets a suspended sentence in case on spread of COVID-19

Mekhti Ibragimov, a son of Mamed Ibragim, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), got a 1 year and 3 month of suspended sentence on the charge of spreading the coronavirus infection. The father of the sentenced young man associated the case with his own political activities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 22, 2020, Mekhti Ibragimov was arrested on the charge of spreading the coronavirus infection after a protest action in Baku.

Today, the Khatai District Court of Baku has pronounced the verdict in the case against Mekhti Ibragimov. The Court found the young man guilty under Article 139-1.1 (violation of anti-epidemiological, sanitary-hygienic or quarantine regimes) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and sentenced him to 1 year and 3 months of probation, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Agil Laidj, an advocate of the sentenced young man.

Mekhti Ibragimov himself also pleaded not guilty. "I did not commit the crime imputed to me. I will file an appeal against the verdict," the young man told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mamed Ibragim, the father of the sentenced young man, associated the criminal prosecution of his son with his own political activities.
