In Baku, police disperse female protestors supporting political prisoners

In Baku, women came to the US Embassy to hold an action in defence of political prisoners. The police seized posters from the protestors' hands and pushed the female activists, including spouses of Polad Aslanov and Afghan Sadygov, away from the building.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that journalist Polad Aslanov, sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a case on high treason, has been on a hunger strike since February 1. The journalist demands to hold an unbiased trial and transfer him under house arrest. Earlier, journalist Afghan Sadygov, convicted in a case on extortion of money, also declared a hunger strike against the unfair sentence. Both journalists were recognized as political prisoners.

"We came here to request the US Embassy, embassies of other countries, and representative offices of international organizations not to be indifferent to the fate of political prisoners ... We ask for the justice and the release of all 150 political prisoners in the country," stated Gyulmira, a spouse of Polad Aslanov, the editor-in-chief of the "xeberman.com" website.

Sevindj Sadygova says that her husband has been refusing food for the 97th day already. "They use force to feed Afghan by introducing a tube into his stomach. He has lost 30 kilograms and is not able to walk," the wife of Afghan Sadygov noted.
