Ingush religious leaders decide to expel drug traffickers from Islamic communities

The Ingush Council of Alims (Islam experts) made a decision to expel drug dealers from religious communities after the leader of the republic had called them on to join in solving the problem of drug trafficking.

The decision to expel persons convicted of drug trafficking from religious communities was made by the Ingush Council of Alims at a meeting with the participation of mosque imams. The decision was based on the statistics of drug use in Ingushetia. Thus, about 1600 people are registered with drug addiction, which is 39 more than last year. Most of those registered are young people under 35 years old.

The expulsion from local communities means that religious leaders, imams will not be able to attend wedding ceremonies, funerals, and other family events in the houses of drug dealers and their close relatives, the "Interfax" reports today with reference to Isa Khamkhoev, Mufti of Ingushetia.

Earlier, at a meeting with the religious leaders, Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, the leader of Ingushetia, pointed out a number of gaps in anti-drug activities and expressed his hope for the contribution of the religious leaders in solving the problem of drug trafficking, the press service of the leader of the region reported.
