Chechen State Duma delegate demands extradition of Akhmed Zakaev to Russia

After Akhmed Zakaev spoke in support of the suspects killed by law enforcers in the village of Katar-Yurt, Shamsail Saraliev, a delegate to the State Duma from Chechnya, has claimed that the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia are to achieve the extradition of Akhmed Zakaev from the UK. YouTube users note that the Akhmed Zakaev's appeal angered the authorities of Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 20, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that a group of militants led by Aslan Byutukaev had been killed in the village of Katar-Yurt. The leader of Chechnya claims that the armed underground in the region has been completely eliminated. There are no underground leaders left in Chechnya, but there are still the conditions for the emergence of new militants from among those dissatisfied with the situation in the republic, experts suggest.

"Akhmed Zakaev declared his support for the killed militants and called the terrorists national heroes," stated Shamsail Saraliev, a member of the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), as quoted by the "Chechnya Today".

The UK granted Akhmed Zakaev political asylum, although he is on the international wanted list, Shamsail Saraliev has added.

The appeal, made by Akhmed Zakaev as the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, banned in the Russian Federation as terrorist, was posted on the Akhmed Zakaev's YouTube channel. In the appeal, the suspects killed in the Katar-Yurt village are called "fighters of the Chechen resistance".

Let us remind you that in September, Akhmed Zakaev, the head of the abroad-located government of the self-proclaimed Ichkeria, banned in the Russian Federation as terrorist, reported about the detention of his brothers, sisters, and nephews in Chechnya.
