Colleagues of Chechen writer Ibragimov call him courageous fighter against injustice

Rizvan Ibragimov is remembered as a person intolerant of any injustice. He stubbornly defended his civic position, causing respect even among his critics, writer's colleagues believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 10, Rizvan Ibragimov, a writer, who was subjected to criminal prosecution in Chechnya on charges of extremism after he had criticized republic's authorities, died.

Ibragimov's publications were of a philosophical nature and contained scientifically controversial points, but they characterize the author as a brave and versatile person, said Ruslan Kutaev, President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations.

"Ibragimov was known for his advocacy for the spiritual education of young people," said Satsita Israilova, Director of the National Library of Chechnya.

"He openly supported the activities of Ruslan Kutaev, and of any person infringed by the authorities. Ibragimov had purposefully defended his own rights in connection with the unfair, in his opinion, sentence ... People also loved him because he was principled in issues of the Chechen history," Aslanbek Dadaev, a correspondent of the "Radio Liberty", believes.
