Azeri analysts see problem of humanitarian corridors in conflict zone
The Azerbaijani Army seeks to cut the communications linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia; and vehicles moving towards Nagorno-Karabakh can be treated as military targets, experts from Baku have stated. Should Azerbaijani militaries establish full control over the roads, all humanitarian supplies will go there only with the permission of Azerbaijani authorities, said Azad Isazade, a former employee of the information and analytical department of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). In the conditions of fierce battles, opening humanitarian corridors is unrealistic, believes Togrul Djuvarly, a member of the Azerbaijani National Public Committee for European Integration.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, Araik Arutyunyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, called on the Armenian people to defend Shushi (the Azerbaijani name is Shusha), after which volunteers from Armenia left for this front sector. On November 4, the MoD of Nagorno-Karabakh announced the closure of certain sections of the key Shushi-Berdzor (Azerbaijani name is Lachin) highway due to possible attacks.
Blocking the Armenia's transport communications with Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan's obvious military target, said Azad Isazade, a former employee of the information and analytical department of the Azerbaijani MoD.
Togrul Djuvarly has noted that the territories of the cities of Shusha and Lachin are interesting to Azerbaijan not only because a strategic highway is crossing them, but also because earlier they had been under Azeri's control.
It should be noted here that after the aggravation of the conflict, Baku announced its readiness to provide humanitarian corridors for Armenians.
