Ten persons hold pickets in support of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev

In Makhachkala, activists held a series of solo pickets with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a correspondent of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), and close the criminal case against him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every week, in Makhachkala, colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev hold protests with the demand to release him.

Since June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been under arrest in a case on financing of terrorism. On September 9, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan left him in custody for other three months. Abdulmumin Gadjiev pleads not guilty.

Today, a series of solo pickets have been held in front of the complex of buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the FSB Department for Dagestan at the corner of Gamzatov Avenue and Dakhadaev Street. 10 activists have been directly involved in the pickets, while up to 20 people also stayed at the picket place, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Chernovik".

According to him, drivers of cars passing by the picketers also expressed their support by giving long car horns.

The criminal case against Abdulmumin Gadjiev will be considered at the Southern District Military Court, but it has not arrived there yet, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned from Arsen Shabanov, an advocate of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. According to the advocate, after the criminal case materials come to the court, a preliminary hearing will be scheduled, in which the defendants will take part via video conferencing. In the future, Abdulmumin Gadjiev will be convoyed to Rostov-on-Don and will be placed to one of the Rostov SIZOs (pre-trial prisons), and then he will be directly participating in court hearings, the advocate has added.
