Stepanakert townspeople demand permanent truce from authorities

Despite the ceasefire in force, residents of Stepanakert are afraid to leave their bomb shelters for long. Authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan must conclude a permanent armistice to completely end the fighting in the conflict zone, Stepanakert residents believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the parties agreed on a ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone from October 10. On Saturday, Armenia reported an attack on the frontline undertaken by Azerbaijani militaries, despite a ceasefire agreement.

Tatiana Asryan, a Stepanakert resident, has positively assessed the news of the truce, but regrets that it is temporary. "I have my husband, brothers and two sons on the frontline. I have not seen them since the start of the fighting," she said.

Nelly Osipyan, a local resident, has noted that the Moscow talks give hope for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Sergey Egishyan, a pensioner, believes that the next step should be the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh's independence.

Artak Beglaryan, the NK's Ombudsperson, wrote on the Facebook that the October 10 attacks damaged the infrastructure and caused victims.

"Under missile and artillery shelling, Stepanakert continues living its own life; works are underway to restore the city," Suren Tamrazyan, Vice Mayor of Stepanakert, has added.
