Ingush village elders impose fine for long wedding party corteges

In the village of Kantyshevo, wedding party corteges should consist of a maximum of four cars, imams of mosques and elders in the Nazran District of Ingushetia decide. They threatened violators of the new regulation with a fine of 50,000 roubles.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Ingushetia, like in all the republics of Northern Caucasus, the number of wedding parties sharply decreased during the period of restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic. In March, 244 wedding parties took place, while in April and May, only 41 and 45, respectively.

Khamzat Zurabov, the imam of the mosque in the village of Kantyshevo, has announced that in case if other cars join a wedding party cortege during its way, the whole wedding party cortege must stop.

Let us remind you that on August 17, neighbouring Chechnya imposed a regulation, according to which wedding party corteges should consist of a maximum of four cars, and violators would be fined.

In Northern Caucasus, there is a tradition to hold wedding party celebrations on a grand scale, and local residents do their best to follow the tradition out of fear of public condemnation.
