Dagestani resident Timur Muritov's second complaint about torture filed to ECtHR

According to a new complaint filed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in a case against Timur Muritov, who was sentenced for recruiting people into the "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), his right to a fair trial was violated despite his complaint about torture.

On August 16, 2019, the first complaint in the Timur Muritov's case was filed to the ECtHR, in which the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reported about the torture to which law enforcers had subjected Timur Muritov after his detention in Dagestan.

In March 2018, in Makhachkala, Timur Muritov, a citizen of Kazakhstan, was detained on suspicion of recruiting city residents into the "Islamic State", a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. The court sentenced him to eight years of imprisonment.

Till this year, there was no possibility to file the second complaint in the case, explains Tamilla Imanova, a lawyer of the HRC "Memorial".

In addition to torture and his unlawful, according to the human rights defenders, detention, Timur Muritov was not provided with a possibility to choose food without pork. Besides, he stayed under constant video surveillance in his cell.

On April 4, 2018, during a court hearing, Timur Muritov injured himself in protest against torture, including with electric current, advocate Israfil Gadadov reported.
