In Yerevan, protesters demand to open border with Russia
Dozens of Armenian citizens gathered in front of the government building with the demand to resume transport connection with Russia. The local residents complained that they had lost their jobs abroad and found themselves separated from their relatives.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the spring, Armenia closed its state borders because of the coronavirus pandemic. The state of emergency is in effect in the country until September 11.
This morning, dozens of Armenian citizens have gathered in front of the government building. They demand from the authorities to open the state borders or at least announce the specific dates when the borders will be open. The protestors explain that they live and work in Russia. "Before the borders were closed, all of us came to Armenia on business for a while. Someone arrived to visit parents, while others came to put their documents in order. Then the borders were closed, and we stayed here, while our families and our jobs are beyond the border," said one of activists.
The protestors handed over to the government a list of 150 people wishing to go to Russia. A similar action has already taken place in Yerevan on August 12, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports.
