City militia deputy head assassinated in Karachayevo-Cherkessia

In the evening of December 22, militia captain Umar Shamanov, deputy head of the Department of Interior of the city of Teberda, Karachayevo-Cherkessia, was shot dead, the IA "Interfax" has reported today. Shamanov's body with gunshot wounds was found in the porch of his house yesterday about 10:20 p.m. local time.

Sapar Laipanov, Mayor of the town of Karachaevsk (Karachayevo-Cherkessia), has informed that the murder is not related to manifestations of religious extremism.

In 2005, seven militiamen and one FSB employee were killed in this city. The local public prosecutor's office cannot tell anything about the investigation of the last year's crimes, since these criminal cases are investigated by the Office of Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation.
