Rights defenders treat Aguev's call to find jobs for offenders as incorrect

Rustam Aguev, the boss of the Kurchaloi ROVD (District Interior Division), did a good thing, when offered to find jobs for the Chechens scolded for drinking alcohol, but he did it incorrectly, human rights defenders believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 30, a video was posted on the Instagram, in which Rustam Aguev scolded seven men for drinking alcohol. Instagram users expressed their surprise at Aguev's instruction to his subordinates to send the detainees to work.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee, called Aguev's words not very correct. "The very offer to find jobs for the detainees is a good deed and a blessing, of course. And this can be praised, but only if it is formulated with dignity, and not in the way as ROVD boss did it. This is generally not humiliating, but unpleasant. It is humiliating that they were publicly reprimanded for drinking alcohol," she has emphasized.

Ruslan Kutaev, President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has noted that the Kurchaloi ROVD stands out among other by frequent stories about 'prophylactic work' with the population. "Not so long ago, they scolded some offenders and made a video out of it. Here, apparently, it is customary to account for each of their actions by means of video materials. Any action of reprimanding people is posted on the Internet in order to show how well the local law enforcers are working," Mr Kutaev has explained.
