Film about war in South Ossetia wins international festival

The film "Death/Survival Is Impossible", dedicated to the South-Ossetian-Georgian armed conflict has been declared the winner of the International Patriotic Film Festival in the nomination of "The Best Full-Length Film".

The film by North-Ossetian directors was presented at the VII International Patriotic Film Festival "Fatherland Defenders-2020" held in Kazan.

According to the scriptwriter Konstantin Bitarov, the script was written 10 years ago; and the names of the participants in the August 2008 Georgian-Ossetian conflict have been preserved, the TASS reports.

August 12, 2020, marks the 12th anniversary of the end of the Georgian-South-Ossetian conflict with the participation of Russia – the so-called "Five-Day War". The large-scale hostilities began at night on August 8, 2008, and lasted for five days. Russia then recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, after which Georgia broke its diplomatic relations with Russia.

The film victory was unexpected, "since the festival is of a very high level; and serious works were participating," the edition "15th Region" quotes Angelina Tsalikova-Bitarova, the film director, as saying.

The main hero of the film "Death/Survival Is Impossible" is the 21-year-old Alan. He lives with his family and works in Moscow, but because of the events in his homeland, he gives up everything and leaves to fight. The creative group of the film included real combatants, which differs it from other works about the August 2008 conflict, the "Sputnik-South Ossetia" reported.
