The emissary of Chechen separatists has stated that Russian authorities, who have resumed investigation of his criminal case, are thus trying to scare him. According to Mr. Zakaev, the Kremlin is trying to shut him up after he had accused Russian leaders of murdering journalist Anna Politkovskaya and ex-FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko, the "Reuters" reports. "You may liquidate a person, or just intimidate him. In any case, if he falls silent, you hit your target. Sure, they want to get this from me," Zakaev said.

We remind you that the Chief Department of the General Public Prosecutor's Office for the South Federal District has resumed the earlier suspended investigation on the criminal case in relation to Ahmed Zakaev, emissary of Chechen separatists, initiated back in 2001. The formulation of reopening is "in view of newly-detected circumstances." It is obvious that activation of the Prosecutor's Office is a consequence of the investigation into the circumstances of the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, under which Russian investigators are going in the near future to interrogate Zakaev in London.
