Mekhti Ibragimov to be transferred to house arrest

In Baku, the court granted the defence motion to transfer Mekhti Ibragimov, a son of Mamed Ibragim, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, to house arrest. Today, Mekhti Ibragimov has stopped his hunger strike which he started on August 10.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 22, Mekhti Ibragimov was arrested for three months on the charge of spreading the coronavirus infection after a protest action in Baku. His father Mamed Ibragim, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), called the charge far-fetched and associated the prosecution of his son with his own political activities.

At night on July 15, a non-sanctioned march took place in Baku in support of the Azerbaijani Army, which ended in activists' clashes with the police. The PFPA reported that dozens of activists were detained after the action.

Today, the Khatai District Court of Baku has granted the defence motion to transfer to house arrest Mekhti Ibragimov, the son of Mamed Ibragim, a member of the PFPA Presidium, advocate Agil Laidjev has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, Mekhti Ibragimov continued his hunger strike until today. "But his demands have been partially fulfilled. Although the criminal case has not been closed, he is to be released from custody and will stay with his family members," Agil Laidjev said.
