Vainakh Diaspora in Europe urges Egyptian authorities to release arrested Ingushes

Four students from Ingushetia have been imprisoned in Cairo for two years without sentences or well-justified accusation, members of the Vainakh Diaspora in Europe have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the arrest of four Ingush students kept in an Egyptian prison is regularly extended. Their relatives complain that Russian officials and diplomats do nothing to free them.

Five young people from Ingushetia were detained in Egypt in August 2018. Only on February 2, 2019, the information was confirmed that four of them were in prison. In April 2019, they were charged with extremism, espionage, and links with the "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court). The fate of the fifth detainee, Khizir Dugiev, remains unknown.

Members of the Chechen Diaspora have called for actions, to be held in various European countries, to mark the second anniversary of the Ingush students' arrest in Egypt. So far, such action was held in Paris: about 30 members of the Chechen-Ingush Diaspora in France came to the Egyptian Embassy demanding to liberate the detainees.

"The Ingush students are kept in prison under investigation for two years. This is an outrageous time; there must be some kind of court session to extend the term of their pre-trial detention, but no sessions were held. By our action we wanted to show that there are people and organizations that worry about them; they will monitor this case and protect their rights," said Djambulat Suleimanov, the head of the "Bart-Marsho" association in Paris.
