Instagram users find video with relatives of Chechen killed in Austria unconvincing

The mother and sister of Mamikhan Umarov, assassinated in Austria, who live in Argun, have refuted his earlier claims that the authorities had been putting pressure on them. Social network users and local residents have treated the video as a staged one.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 22, a video appeared on the Instagram, in which Umarov's relatives living in Chechnya apologized for the words that he had said, and declared themselves guilty of his murder. Social network users treated their apologies as forced ones.

In his videos posted on the YouTube, Mamikhan Umarov, a native of Chechnya, criticized and insulted Ramzan Kadyrov and his parents. Shortly before his death, Umarov claimed received threats.

The authors of an Instagram publication assert that after his marriage, Umarov evicted his mother and sister from the house.

The girl, presented as Umarov's sister, stated in the video that no one was persecuted her mother. An elderly woman voiced a similar version. She also accused Umarov's widow that after marrying her, Anzor "went astray".

The publication of the video clip suggests that the authorities are trying to discredit not only Umarov, but also his widow, Milana, an NGO activist, has suggested.

"Both the cousin, who suddenly decided to film a video with Anzor's mother and sister, and they themselves repeat same things; they get confused. This is a staged video ... The method chosen is a win-win one – the bad daughter-in-law who had torn her son away from her mother, and the brother from his sisters," Milana has explained.

The Umarov's murder is politically motivated, members of the Chechen Diaspora in Austria have suggested.
