Azerbaijani and Armenian MoD claim shelling in border districts

During the last 24 hours, positions of Azerbaijani militaries were shelled for 47 times. The Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported six attacks and a subsequent relative calmness at the border.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the border of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia escalated on July 12. Given the four killed and 20 wounded people on the Armenian side, the count of victims since the start of the aggravation on the border made 40 killed and wounded people.

According to the Armenian side, the situation on the border aggravated after the Azerbaijani troops had tried to break through the border. In its turn, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan claims that the conflict escalated after the Armenian armed forces had attempted to go on the attack.

"During the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire for 47 times in various sections of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated on its website today. According to the MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the village of Agdam and on nameless heights in the Tovuz and Gadabay Districts came under fire. The shelling was also delivered from the territories that Azerbaijan treats as its occupied ones, says the message.

At night, a relative calmness was observed on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Shushan Stepanyan the press secretary of the Armenian MoD, has stated.
