Armenia starts reconstruction of houses in Tavush Region damaged in shelling attacks

In Armenia, more than 50 private houses were damaged in the Tavush Region after shelling attacks from the Azerbaijani side, and the work has been started to restore them, the governor reports. Villagers will receive compensation for damage to agriculture, the authorities promise.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the border of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia escalated on July 12. The Azerbaijani side announced the death of 11 of its soldiers and one civilian, and wounding of four soldiers. Given the four killed and 20 wounded people on the Armenian side, the count of victims since the start of the aggravation on the border made 40 killed and wounded people.

According to the Armenian side, the situation on the border aggravated after the Azerbaijani troops had tried to break through the border. In its turn, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan claims that the conflict escalated after the Armenian armed forces had attempted to go on the attack.

Today, Hayk Chobanyan, Governor of the Tavush Region of Armenia, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the life in border villages is returning to its usual routine.

The Governor has noted that in recent days, there were no shelling attacks on border villages from the Azerbaijani side. According to Hayk Chobanyan, the work has been already started to restore houses and infrastructure damaged as a result of the shelling attacks.

"At the end of the week, a summary will be made concerning how many buildings were damaged. At the moment, we can say about more than 50 damaged private houses," the Governor of the Tavush Region said.

Moreover, a special commission has been created to calculate agricultural damage, the Governor reports.

"After calculating and approving the amount of damage, we will make a decision concerning the type of compensation: whether it will be financial compensation or equivalent to the damage caused. We intend not only to pay for the damage, but to assist in the development of border villages," Hayk Chobanyan explained.
