Protesters in Berlin demand from Baku to stop persecuting activists

On July 9, Azerbaijani political émigrés held four protest actions in the German capital urging the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the US Embassy and the EU mission to introduce sanctions against Azerbaijani officials for harassing their political opponents.

Rallies under the slogans "Freedom for political prisoners!" and "End to repression!" were held in front of the buildings of the German MFA, the US Embassy, the EU Delegation, and the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Berlin. The rallies were organized by the NGO of political emigrants "Choose a Democratic Azerbaijan" (ChDA).

According to Agil Guseinov, an activist, protesters in Berlin adopted resolutions demanding to put an end to the persecutions of activists, arrests, threats, repressions and torture of those detained in Azerbaijan, as well as to allow political prisoners to be freely visited by their advocates and relatives.

"We also demanded to apply sanctions against those Azerbaijani officials who are violating human rights, and to inform us about the measures to exert pressure on Azerbaijani authorities to force them stop repressions," Mr Guseinov has stated, adding that the resolutions were submitted to the German MFA, the US Embassy and the EU Delegation.
