Chechen woman repents in public of resorting to services of a witch

The police accused Malkan Madaeva, a resident of Gudermes, that she had used the services of a witch. On the air of the state-run TV Company, Malkan Madaeva said that she regretted resorting to the services of the witch.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2019, the Chechen authorities intensified the persecution of people engaged in provision of occult services. In the period from July to December, the "Grozny" TV Channel showed at least 10 reports in which local residents repented of being engaged in practicing witchcraft.

In a house of Malkan Madaeva, policemen from the Gudermes OVD (Interior Division) discovered items proving her involvement in black magic rituals. In particular, the policemen found photographs fastened with a lock, tied with ropes, and pierced with needles. After that, in the building of the Gudermes OVD, a consideration was held with the participation of Malkan Madaeva herself, her relatives, law enforcers, and religious figures, reported a story presented in the nightly news of the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company) on July 7.

On the air of the "Grozny" TV Channel, Malkan Madaeva explained that she worried a lot about the divorce of her daughter and took advantage of an offer of a woman unknown to her, who claimed that she could reunite the separated spouses.

Ramzan Radjapov, an expert at the Islamic Centre, who came to the police building in Gudermes, said that "no witchcraft practices would be ever tolerated" in Chechnya.

In their comments under the story reporting about Malkan Madaeva and posted at night on July 8 in the Instagram public account "Grozny TV", many social network users criticized the people who practiced witchcraft rituals or resorted to the help of witches. On the contrary, other users expressed in their comments sharply negative reaction to the hunt for witches and called such actions "the dark ages."
