Prosecutor's Office of Karachay-Cherkessia associates war veteran's death with quality of treatment

Today, the Prosecutor's Office of Karachay-Cherkessia has announced that a veteran of World War II died of COVID-19 because he had been discharged from a hospital instead of treatment. The question concerning an institution of criminal prosecution against doctors is under consideration.

Earlier, Leyla Batchaeva, the head of the infectious diseases department of the Karachayevsk Central District Hospital, and other medical officers have reported to the Moscow journalist about the medical crisis in the republic amid the coronavirus epidemic.

The Prosecutor's Office found out that in early June, the war veteran was taken to the Ust-Dzheguta Central District Hospital. The coronavirus test was positive, but the pensioner was discharged for treatment at home, where he died on June 5. "The patient did not receive proper medical care, and no diagnostic examination was prescribed. The patient was not transferred to a medical institution specializing in the treatment of diseases of the new coronavirus infection," the Prosecutor's Office of Karachay-Cherkessia reports.

Prosecutors obliged investigators to consider the question concerning institution of a criminal case under Article "Causing death through negligence because of improper performance of professional duties" and Article "Refusal to help a patient", the Prosecutor's Office of Karachay-Cherkessia has reported today on its Instagram page. Each of the above-mentioned articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for up to three years of imprisonment.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, patients are forcibly discharged from COVID-19 hospitals for showing the positive statistics of recoveries and the availability of beds, the Instagram account "Politika09_com" reports today.
