NKR accuses Azerbaijan of 95 shelling attacks within week

Since June 7, Azerbaijani militaries have fired more than 900 shots at the positions of the Defence Army, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 31-June 6, the NKR counted 100 ceasefire violations committed by Azerbaijan.

Over the past week, the Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire for 95 times on the contact line with the troops of the Defence Army, the NKR's MoD has stated. The opponent used small arms of various calibres, the press service of the NKR's MoD has stated, as translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In their turn, the advanced units of the NKR's Defence Army "have stuck to the established ceasefire," the MoD has stressed.

By 1:10 p.m. Moscow time today, the Azerbaijani MoD had not commented on the statements of the NKR's MoD about the shelling. At the same time, over the past 24 hours, the Azerbaijani side counted 21 shelling attacks from Armenia and from the territories controlled by the NKR.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
