In Armenia, 60 refugee families receive housing certificates

Certificates for the purchase of housing were received by 60 families of refugees from Azerbaijan, who live in non-privatized dormitory rooms, the Migration Service of Armenia has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2019, a decision was made in Armenia to resume the housing programme for refugees from Azerbaijan, which was suspended in 2008. At the first stage, 112 families were promised assistance, of which 20 received certificates by March 4.

In the period from 1988 to 1992, about 360,000 Armenians moved to Armenia from Azerbaijan. According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, most of those refugees migrated to Russia, the United States, and other countries.

Of the 112 families included in the first phase of the programme, by May 28, certificates were granted to only 60 families, the reason being in the bureaucratic procedure only. They plan to provide all 112 families-participants of the first programme phase with housing certificates by the end of this year, as had been planned initially, Nelly Davtyan, the press secretary of the Migration Service of Armenia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Certificates are primarily intended for those refugee families who live in temporary homes; therefore, the above programme will cover those, who live in non-privatized hostel rooms, Ms Davtyan has added.
