Instagram users criticize permit system to enter market in Chechnya

In the Gudermes District, law enforcers demand from residents to show a permit to enter the market in the village of Oiskhara and thus prevent people from purchasing food to celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Fitr, Instagram users note. Restrictions are in force for the second day, local residents report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Chechnya, the period from May 23 to 26 was announced to be holidays on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. For those days, the movement throughout the republic will be banned, the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announces. The police urged residents of the republic to follow the appeal of Ramzan Kadyrov to celebrate the holiday at home.

The cancellation of the mass celebrations of the Eid al-Fitr holiday disappointed the residents of Chechnya, who hoped for mitigation of the quarantine restrictions and a chance to celebrate the holiday in accordance with the tradition.

A person can drive to the market in the Oiskhara village only with a permit, the Instagram public account "ChP Chechnya" reports.

Users of the social network express their indignation about the restrictions. "Let people buy some food at least for the end of fasting," user soumaya7807 called on the authorities. "Suppose a poor man goes to a market to buy bread, but he has no permit. Will you drive him out?" user tresh757 reproached law enforcers.

Residents of the Oiskhara village have noted that the control regime on the market has been tightened since May 20. "If a person does not have a permit, then it is supposed that he or she should not eat and drink?" said local resident Ramzan.

"Despite the restrictions, people began to go out a little, because we need to prepare for the holiday of Eid al-Fitr ... It's clear that security measures are needed. However, the authorities could have introduced mitigations for at least these couple of days in order not to ultimately spoil the holiday which has already been spoiled," said Petimat, another resident of the Oiskhara village.
