Alexander Cherkasov pays first 300,000 roubles of fines

The chairman of the board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" paid three fines, each in the amount of 100,000 roubles, which were imposed on him after the inspection conducted by the FSB Department for Ingushetia. The fines were paid out of the raised donations. Today, the HRC "Memorial" has announced that a complaint about the decisions of the Russian courts on fines will be filed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 27, it became known that the amount of fines imposed after the inspection of the HRC "Memorial" by the Ingush FSB Department increased up to 4.7 million roubles. The court imposed fines on the "International Memorial", the HRC "Memorial", and leaders of these NGOs for the absence of a "foreign agent" mark in the NGOs' publications.

On April 27, Alexander Cherkasov, the chairman of the board of the HRC "Memorial", paid three fines, each in the amount of 100,000 roubles. So, the HRC "Memorial" paid the first fines for the absence of a "foreign agent" mark, the press service of the HRC "Memorial" reports.

"We filed appeals against all the decisions [on fines] to the Moscow City Court, but our appeals were not granted. A complaint about the fines will be filed to the European Court of Human Rights. We resorted to crowdfunding to raise the money to pay the fines. We thank everyone who has already helped us. We continue to raise funds through the website," stated the HRC "Memorial" in a message posted today on its website.
