Chechen Muftiate recommends praying within families

The onset of the Muslims' holy month of Ramadan has not led to any lifting of restrictions on visiting mosques in Chechnya. The namaz (prayer) should be performed in the family circle, as stated in the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM, or Muftiate) of Chechnya.

On March 24, the Mufti of Chechnya, Salakh Mezhiev, urged not to attend Friday prayers and not to hold crowded weddings and commemorations. On April 24, the holy month of Ramadan began amid the closed mosques.

Despite the fact that mosques are closed to ordinary believers, Imams attend them, the Chechen SAM has noted. "Imams are also taking part in the distribution of foodstuffs to those in need, which is organized by the republic's leadership and the Akhmat-haji Kadyrov Foundation," the Chechen Muftiate has reported.

Believers are recommended to perform at home not only the daily five-fold prayer, but also the taravikh namaz – additional prayers.

Believers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they are trying to adhere to the rites associated with Ramadan as much as possible.
