In Armenia, 18 prisoners go on hunger strike

In Vanadzor, for the second day, prisoners refuse to accept food in protest against prolonged trials and charges in their cases.

The hunger strike began on April 21, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Nona Navikyan, the press secretary for the Penitentiary and Correctional Service of Armenia. According to Nona Navikyan, the prisoners went on hunger strike for various reasons. "Some detainees declared hunger strike because of appointment of the date of criminal court hearings, while others protest against the justification of the charges brought against them and the progress of their criminal cases," said Nona Navikyan.

According to the press secretary for the Armenian Penitentiary and Correctional Service, the administration of the Vanadzor penitentiary institution tries to persuade the detainees to finish their hunger strike.

It should also be noted that in December 2019, a resident of Armenia, accused of robbery, declared hunger strike and thus managed to change his arrest for recognizance not to leave the place.
