Federation Council approves transfer of Military Glory Day for Beslan Mourning Day

The law on the transfer of the World War II Ending Day from September 2 to September 3 has been approved by the Russian Federation Council. The decision was made contrary to the opinion of Arsen Fadzaev, the Senator (Council member) from North Ossetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2005, September 3 became the Russia's Solidarity Day in struggle against terrorism. The memorial date was established in memory of the tragic events of September 1-3, 2004, in Beslan. On April 15, 2020, the Russian State Duma decided to treat September 3 as the World War II Ending Day; since the war was officially over on September 2, 1945. Combining the World War II Ending Day with the Solidarity Day in struggle against terrorism is unacceptable, the "Beslan Mothers" committee has stated.

"Today, the issue was considered by the Federation Council. [...] It's quite obvious to me that September 3 is a mourning day related to the Beslan tragedy. Our republic and our country should never forget about it," the Senator from North Ossetia, Arsen Fadzaev, wrote on April 17 in his Instagram page. "As a representative of Ossetia, I could not support this transfer and voted against it," he has summed up.

The transfer of the World War II Ending Day to September 3 was supported by 129 Senators (members of the Federation Council); two voted against and one abstained, says the broadcast of the sitting, posted on April 17 on the Council's YouTube channel.
