Chechen residents do not believe TV report about food prices

In Chechnya, according to a report prepared by the republican TV Channel and released today, the food prices in shops and markets remained the same after the quarantine had been imposed. The prices for many food products have significantly grown in the republic, Instagram users and local residents note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in mid-March, amid the threat of the coronavirus infection spread, residents of Chechnya began to buy food in large quantities. The increased demand led to the growth of prices, and after that Ramzan Kadyrov instructed officials to control the food prices.

At night news on April 15, the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen TV and Radio Company) showed the story reporting no growth of the food prices in Chechnya. Today, the very TV report was posted on the page of the "Grozny" Channel on Instagram.

The post of the "Grozny" TV Channel on its Instagram page gained 38,100 views within three hours, and 166 comments were posted under it. In their comments, many users gave examples of the rise in the food prices.

"At present, the prices on chickens are 350-400 roubles compared to earlier prices of 250-280 roubles. And do you mean this is not a price jump? And one kilogram of lemons costs 50-80 roubles now. Is this also not a price jump?" wrote, in particular, user _t_movna_.

Some residents of the Chechen Republic also told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about the growth of the food prices. "Prices have grown for almost everything, starting from flour, sugar and ending with baking products. Earlier, one kilogram of meat used to cost 310 roubles at our place, and now the price is 340-350 roubles. Chickens cost 350 roubles instead of 300. And now you have to pay about 200 roubles to buy a dozen of eggs, although earlier, it used to cost 140-180 roubles. And the same situation is with almost the entire range of food products," said, in particular, Leyla, a resident of Grozny.
