Chechen law enforcers publicly reproach quarantine violators

For the refusal of self-isolation, the Chechen law enforcement bodies threaten dozens of quarantine violators with detention or car seizure. Local residents note that by placing dozens of violators together, law enforcers themselves violated the quarantine regime.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Chechnya, the first case of the coronavirus infection was confirmed on March 24. By March 29, the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection reached nine. One of the patients, an elderly woman, stays in serious condition.

Today, the Instagram public account "ChP Chechnya" has posted a video with dozens of men in medical masks. They are addressed by a man in a papakha hat, with a medical mask on his face and with black medical gloves on his hands. "We perceive only later what we are told. Do not leave [home], do not go outside," the man says.

Then the men are addressed by a law enforcer dressed in camouflage uniform, without a mask on his face. "If you don't understand what you are being told, we will force you to by detention, placement into custody, or seizure of your cars," the man in camouflage explains.

The video is accompanied by a brief inscription reading: "Quarantine violators."

In their comments under the post on the Instagram public account "ChP Chechnya", some users supported the law enforcers' actions. "You should beat them with sticks, like in India. They won't understand otherwise," wrote user mag_baysangur as translated from the Chechen language by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

However, many followers of the "ChP Chechnya" left critical comments. "To ensure that people do not gather anywhere, they are brought together at a police station," notes user vis_alievich. "The quarantine is at a point of absurdity," user ruslanb0508 wrote in Chechen.
