Azerbaijan reports sniper shelling attacks in conflict zone

Within the last 24 hours, positions of Azerbaijani troops in the conflict zone were shelled for 24 times, including from sniper rifles, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, Azerbaijan counted 22 cases of shelling of its troops in the conflict zone; the day earlier, it reported 21 such cases.

"During the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, by using sniper rifles, violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 24 times," the Azerbaijani MoD has reported on its website today.

According to the MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the village of Guschu Airym in the Gazakh District, in the village of Agbulag in the Tovuz District and at anonymous heights located in the territory of the Gadabay District came under fire. According to the "Yandex.Maps" service, the Gazakh, Gadabay and Tovuz Districts of Azerbaijan are bordering on the Tavush Region of Armenia.

As of 8:50 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and NKR had not commented on this message in their websites.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
