Azerbaijan claims machine-gun shelling attacks in conflict zone

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops in villages located on the border with Armenia and in the conflict zone with Nagorno-Karabakh were shelled 23 times within 24 hours, including from machine guns, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19, the positions of the Azerbaijani troops were shelled 21 times within 24 hours, while a day earlier ‑ 24 times within 24 hours.

Over the past day, the Azerbaijani side registered 23 cases of the ceasefire violations, including from large-calibre machine guns, the Azerbaijani MoD reported.

"The positions of the Azerbaijan's army were shelled in the villages of Kemerli, Ferekhli, Gushchu Airym, Gyzylgadjyly in the Gazakh District and in the village of Zamanly and at nameless heights in the territory of the Gadabay District," the Azerbaijani MoD reported on its official website.

The fire also came from the territory controlled by the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani MoD reports.

Till present, the Ministries of Defence of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not posted on their official websites any comments on the statement released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
