Congress of Dagestani Chechens in Khasavyurt arouses interest in Chechnya

The Eleventh Congress of Dagestani Chechens was dedicated to restoration of the Aukh District and ended with the announcement of a nationwide rally. Residents of Chechnya have supported the idea.

The 11th Congress of Dagestani Chechens, which discussed the restoration of the Aukh District, was held in the city of Khasavyurt on February 15, 2020.

The congress discussed the restoration of the Aukh District in its former borders, in which it was abolished on February 23, 1944. The congress delegates decided to hold, on March 22, 2020, a nationwide rally, says the message about the congress posted on the website of the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company).

The restoration of the Aukh District has been excessively protracted; the interests of the Chechens living in Dagestan are infringed; however, such issues require due balance and thoughtfulness, the local residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent believe.

"The endless procrastination of the issue will give no positive result. In this case, to my mind, the point is in the infringement of legitimate interests of Aukh Chechens," said Umar, a Grozny resident and a historian by education.
