Court denies Robert Kocharyan's defence access to case materials

The Prosecutor's Office succeeded in seeking the cancellation of the decision to submit the materials of the case on the dispersal of demonstrators to advocates of the former president of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2019, the court granted the claim of the Robert Kocharyan's defence and obliged investigators to submit all the materials of the case. Advocates of Robert Kocharyan and Seiran Oganyan, the former Armenian Minister of Defence, then accused a public prosecutor of hiding the materials of the case and asked for his withdrawal, but the judge found the defence's arguments unfounded.

Robert Kocharyan is accused of taking a bribe of three million US dollars, and of suppressing protests in Yerevan on March 1-2, 2008, during which ten people perished.

Today, the Court of Appeal has cancelled the decision on submission of the materials on the "case of March 1" to the Robert Kocharyan's defence. The Court found grounded the prosecutor's statements that the case materials cannot be presented in full volume, based on the interests of the investigation.

The advocates of the second president of Armenia and he himself did not attend the pronouncement of the decision, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.
