Advocate of CC head of Armenia threaten to sue Pashinyan for defamation

Nikol Pashinyan, the Armenian Premier, has posted on the Facebook a video report of the Republic's Public TV with the details of the criminal case against Grair Tovmasyan. The defence of Tovmasyan has announced its intention to sue the Public TV Channel and the Prime Minister demanding to restore the violated rights of the judge.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2019, investigators accused Grair Tovmasyan, the head of the Constitutional Court (CC) of holding fictitious auctions. In December 2019, Grair Tovmasyan was charged with abuse of powers while being the Minister of Justice. Tovmasyan himself treated the prosecution as politically motivated.

The above TV report with details of the accusations of Grair Tovmasyan of abuse of powers was posted by Nikol Pashinyan in his Facebook page on January 30. The Premier accompanied the post by the words "Grair Tovmasyan cannot head the Constitutional Court."

The defence of Grair Tovmasyan has accused the Republic's Public TV of presenting biased proofs and breaching the presumption of innocence. "This is an obvious political order; the authors of the report hadn't even bother to present the defence's position," Amram Makinyan, a Tovmasyan's advocate, wrote in his Facebook page.

He has also treated Pashinyan's actions as an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order and usurp the CC, stating that the defence is preparing lawsuits against the Republic's Public TV and the Prime Minister of Armenia.
